FC Basel vs. Chelsea

After beating Spurs in a penalty shootout a couple of weeks before, Basel were facing another London club at the St. Jakob Park. This time it was Chelsea, in what would become the first of four meetings between the two clubs in 2013. Chelsea arrived during the Baselworld watch and jewellery fair, leaving them with no other option than a hotel outside Basel. They still arrived at the EuroAirport though:

Basel, playing in their first European semifinal ever, conceded a goal in the first half, but equalized late in the second half, thanks to a penalty from young Fabian Schär, who would later move on to Hoffenheim, La Coruña and Newcastle United. Yet Basel could not cling on to the draw, as David Luiz scored late in injury time from a free kick.
