Europa League Final 2025 - Tottenham vs Manchester United, 21 May 2025

21 May 2025

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

21.00h local time, San Mames, Bilbao

Rarely ever would a European Final been played between two teams that are sitting so low in the table of a Top Five league. Tottenham Hotspur had a difficult season and sit in 17th in the Premier League, with Manchester United just one spot above in 16th. Relegation may never have been a thing for them, thanks to some clearly weaker teams in the bottom three however.

Tottenham earned their qualification to the final with two wins over the surprise from Norway, Bodø/Glimt. After winning the home leg 3-1, they beat the rank outsiders from Norway 2-0 away in Bodø. Manchester United played away first up in the semifinals, beating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at San Mamés and 4-1 back home at Old Trafford.

Air Travel from England to Spain for the final will be directed to several airports in the North of Spain. Apart from the obvious flights to Bilbao, there will also be lots of charter flights going to Santander and Vitoria. Not listed are extra flights by British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair (EI and UK) or Vueling.

2021 UEFA Europa League Final - Villarreal vs. Manchester United

26 May 2021

Villarreal CF vs. Manchester United (in Gdansk)

As the season in most European leagues has come to a close, the European cup finals are yet to be played. Gdansk was planned to host the Europa League final in 2020, but as we all know, this could not happen. Instead, the city in Northwestern Poland is now hosting this year's final, contested between Villarreal and Manchester United.

In the semifinals, Manchester United had beaten AS Roma in two spectacular games with an aggregate score of 8 goals to 5. Villarreal are playing in their first ever European final after beating Arsenal 2-1 at home and holding out for a goalless draw away in London.

29 May 2019

Arsenal vs. Chelsea (in Baku)

Once again a final of two English teams takes place far away from home. In fact, Baku is quite possibly the furthest away from England a European final has ever taken place. The first known flights are a couple of extra flights by Azerbaijan Airlines, for once operating in and out of Gatwick:
