Europa League Final 2025 - Tottenham vs Manchester United, 21 May 2025

21 May 2025

Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United

21.00h local time, San Mames, Bilbao

Rarely ever would a European Final been played between two teams that are sitting so low in the table of a Top Five league. Tottenham Hotspur had a difficult season and sit in 17th in the Premier League, with Manchester United just one spot above in 16th. Relegation may never have been a thing for them, thanks to some clearly weaker teams in the bottom three however.

Tottenham earned their qualification to the final with two wins over the surprise from Norway, Bodø/Glimt. After winning the home leg 3-1, they beat the rank outsiders from Norway 2-0 away in Bodø. Manchester United played away first up in the semifinals, beating Athletic Bilbao 3-0 at San Mamés and 4-1 back home at Old Trafford.

Air Travel from England to Spain for the final will be directed to several airports in the North of Spain. Apart from the obvious flights to Bilbao, there will also be lots of charter flights going to Santander and Vitoria. Not listed are extra flights by British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair (EI and UK) or Vueling.

Athletic Bilbao vs Manchester United

21.00h, San Mames, Bilbao

Playing an absolutely shambolic season means that the Europa League is the last chance for Manchester United to get a spot in European competition for next season. They need to win the UEL title however in order to gain access to the Champions League. With opponents like Athletic Bilbao, this may indeed be easier said than done.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Bodø/Glimt

21.00h CET (20.00h local time), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Bodø/Glimt are the very first Norwegian side to make it as far as the semifinals in a European competition. Therefore there is hardly any expectation on them, not least after beating AS Roma away in Rome, on penalties after a late fight-back. Bodø/Glimt will be able to count on quite some support traveling from Norway - and not just Bodø itself!

18.45h, Partizan Stadium, Belgrade

One of the teams to play in exile this season is Maccabi Tel Aviv, due to the tumultuous situation in the Middle East. They chose Belgrade as their home away from home and will host FC Midtjylland from Denmark there. Beaten in the first game against SC Braga, Maccabi will look to strike back right away. Midtjylland drew 1-1 in their opener against Hoffenheim from Germany.

This might be the biggest clash in the second round of the league phase. Two clubs that would usually hope to be in the Champions League face each other. 2021 UEFA Europa League Final - Villarreal vs. Manchester United

26 May 2021

Villarreal CF vs. Manchester United (in Gdansk)

As the season in most European leagues has come to a close, the European cup finals are yet to be played. Gdansk was planned to host the Europa League final in 2020, but as we all know, this could not happen. Instead, the city in Northwestern Poland is now hosting this year's final, contested between Villarreal and Manchester United.

In the semifinals, Manchester United had beaten AS Roma in two spectacular games with an aggregate score of 8 goals to 5. Villarreal are playing in their first ever European final after beating Arsenal 2-1 at home and holding out for a goalless draw away in London.

UEFA Europa League is back - LASK at Manchester United

Yes, the UEFA Europa League is finally back from 5 August, with the Round of 16 getting completed in empty home grounds across Europe. Two ties will be settled in one match after the first legs got called off in March, while six other will continue where the teams left off after the first legs.

5 August 2020

Manchester United vs. LASK Linz

The 2017 champions set a good foundation away in Austria already, beating the Austrian outfit 5-0. They will host LASK at an empty Old Trafford for a return leg that really seems academical in nature. 90 minutes' football have to be played first though and it will be a chance for LASK to shine in an unfamiliar surrounding. LAS will travel to Manchester with Maleth-Aero, most probably their Boeing 737-500 9H-MAC, which sees pretty regular use for sports charters.
